Signs of Clinical Depression

The thing about many mental health issues like depression is that you may never really know you have it until you consult with a specialist. Depression in particular can be tricky to root out because it can easily be mistaken for plain sadness or loneliness.

If left untreated, clinical depression can develop and intensify, leading to mental and emotional suffering. So if you or someone you know has any of the following symptoms, you might want to consider consulting a mental health expert today:

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Fatigue and increasingly low energy

  • Feelings of Hopelessness/ Helplessness

  • Insomnia

  • Social Withdrawal

  • Overeating or appetite loss

  • Persistent feelings of anxiety or ‘emptiness’

  • Suicidal Ideation

Common Triggers for Substance use

Substance abuse is a serious issue that could easily tear families apart and ruin lives. People don’t usually become addicted to regulated or prohibited drugs on a whim. Oftentimes, there is an underlying physical, mental, or emotional struggle that leads to such actions. Some of these include:

  • Depression

  • Environmental factors

  • Loss of a loved one

  • Peer pressure

  • Self-medication for physical or mental illness

  • Stress
