Begin the Road to Healing

Substance abuse and mental health issues aren’t always easy to deal with, especially if your family member or loved ones are suffering and you don’t know how to help them. I am Shakeena Speller, Owner of Rise Up Counseling & Consulting PLLC in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and I know what it takes to rise and take that first step to recovery.

Signs of Clinical Depression

The thing about many mental health issues like depression is that you never really know you have it until you consult with a specialist. Depression in particular can be tricky to root out, because it can easily be mistaken for plain sadness or loneliness.

If left untreated, clinical depression can develop and worsen as the years go by, leading to mental and emotional suffering that many people take for granted. So if you or someone you know has any of the following symptoms, you might want to consider consulting a mental health expert today:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Fatigue and increasingly low energy
  • Feelings of Hopelessness/Helplessness
  • Insomnia

  • Excessive sleeping
  • Overeating or appetite loss
  • Persistent feelings of anxiety or ‘emptiness’
  • Suicidal Ideation

Common Triggers for Substance use

Substance abuse is a serious issue that could easily tear families apart and ruin lives.  People don’t usually become addicted to regulated or prohibited drugs on a whim. Oftentimes, there is an underlying physical, mental, or emotional struggle that leads to such actions. Some of these include:

  • Depression
  • Environmental factors
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Peer pressure
  • Self-medication for physical or mental illness
  • Stress

My Mission

As a mental health and addiction specialist, it is my goal to inspire and empower individuals, families, and communities experiencing the strain of mental health and substance abuse issues. I do this by providing them with the resources, support, advocacy as well as the necessary skills to allow them to Rise Up and overcome obstacles in their lives.
